Nursery Management & Staff
At Little Mowgli, our nursery management and staff are the backbone of our commitment to delivering exceptional care and education for children aged 0–5. This page provides professional insight into our leadership, team structure, training, regulatory compliance, and operational practices, offering parents and stakeholders a clear view of the expertise and dedication behind our jungle-inspired nursery. Our goal is to demonstrate the high standards that ensure a nurturing, safe, and enriching environment for every child.
Leadership Philosophy & Meet the Manager
Our leadership philosophy at Little Mowgli is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and a child-centred approach. We believe that strong leadership fosters a culture of excellence, empowering staff to deliver outstanding care while creating a warm, inclusive environment for children and families. Our leaders are committed to inspiring innovation, upholding safeguarding, and building strong partnerships with parents, ensuring every decision prioritises children’s wellbeing and development.
Leading our team is our Nursery Manager, Beth Wilson, who brings 5 years experience in children’s education. Beth completed her degree in Primary Education with QTS, in 2019, and has since completed specialised training in Safeguarding, as well as Food hygiene, Health & Safety and Paediatric First Aid. Her vision is to create a nursery where children thrive through play-based, nature-inspired learning, becoming confident and independent children who are well-prepared for their next-steps in education.
Beth’s leadership style is hands-on and approachable. She regularly engages with staff, children, and parents, whether leading circle time in the Giraffe room or meeting families to discuss their child’s progress. Her focus on open communication and continuous improvement ensures Little Mowgli remains a place of growth for everyone involved. Parents can meet Beth during open days or book a one-to-one meeting via a phone call, or enquiring at the nursery office.
Team Structure & Staff Qualifications
Our team is structured to provide personalised care and education, with a clear hierarchy that supports both operational efficiency and child-focused outcomes. The team includes the Nursery Manager, Deputy Manager, Room Leaders and Nursery Practitioners, all working collaboratively to maintain our high standards.
Each age-specific room— Tigers (ages 0-2) and Giraffes (ages 2-5) —has a dedicated Room Leader who oversees daily activities and ensures alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Room Leaders hold at least a Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education, with aspirations to continue learning through higher levels of qualification. Our Nursery Practitioners, who work directly with children, are qualified to at least Level 2, with all staff members receiving additional training and support throughout their time at Little Mowgli.
We pride ourselves on having a team who are highly-skilled and passionate about the work they do. Many of our staff take on additional courses in specialist areas to best meet the children’s needs and ensure a breadth of knowledge across the team. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSL hold Level 3 qualifications in Safeguarding, and ensure regular safeguarding training takes place for all staff to maintain high standards in child protection. Additionally, all of our staff members are trained in Paediatric First Aid within 3 months of starting at Little Mowgli, ensuring we are both meeting and exceeding statutory requirements, and allowing all children to receive attentive and appropriate care that meets their developmental needs.
Training & Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is integral to our commitment to excellence. We invest in regular training to keep our staff’s skills sharp and aligned with the latest early years research and regulations. All staff complete mandatory training in safeguarding, first aid, and food hygiene, with annual refreshers to maintain compliance.
Beyond statutory requirements, we offer a wide variety of age-specific and subject area-specific CPD opportunities, alongside Lancashire County Council and many other partnering organisations, to provide a breadth of knowledge of opportunity for both our staff and the children in our care.
We encourage staff to pursue higher qualifications, with opportunities to study for Level 4, 5 and 6 qualifications supported by us. Regular appraisals and CPD reviews ensure training aligns with individual and nursery goals. This commitment to professional growth not only benefits our staff but also enriches the learning experiences we provide, reassuring parents of our team’s competence and dedication.
Overview of EYFS Framework
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a UK-wide framework that sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old. It provides a structured yet flexible approach to early education, ensuring that children receive high-quality care and learning experiences that promote their growth.
The EYFS is built around seven key areas of learning and development, divided into prime and specific areas. The three prime areas are:

Developing listening, understanding, and speaking skills.
Encouraging movement, coordination, and healthy habits.

Building self-confidence, relationships, and emotional resilience.
Introducing early reading and writing skills.
Exploring numbers, shapes, and problem-solving.
Discovering people, communities, and the environment.
Fostering creativity through art, music, and imaginative play.
The EYFS framework emphasises a balance between adult-led and child-initiated activities, with play at its core. It also highlights the importance of ongoing observation and assessment to track progress and tailor support to each child’s needs.
At Little Mowgli, we embrace the EYFS as a guiding principle, ensuring that every activity aligns with its standards while remaining engaging and fun.
Ofsted Compliance and Preparation
Little Mowgli is fully compliant with Ofsted regulations, adhering to the rigorous standards set for early years providers in England. Our proactive approach to compliance ensures we meet and exceed expectations, providing parents and stakeholders with confidence in our quality of care and education.
Our preparation for Ofsted inspections is ongoing, embedded in our daily practices. We maintain meticulous records, including safeguarding logs, accident reports, and developmental assessments, all aligned with EYFS requirements. Regular staff supervisions, led by the Nursery Manager and Deputy, identifies strengths and areas for improvement, informing our action plans. Staff are trained to articulate their practice confidently, ensuring inspections reflect our high standards.
Our curriculum, facilities, and safeguarding procedures are designed with Ofsted’s inspection framework in mind, focusing on children’s progress, safety, and wellbeing. Parents are involved in this process through feedback surveys and meetings, ensuring their voices shape our provision.
Behind-the-Scenes Operations
Our behind-the-scenes operations are meticulously managed to ensure a safe, efficient, and child-focused nursery. Key elements include:
Staff-to-Child Ratios: We adhere to EYFS ratios—1:3 for under 2s, 1:5 for children aged 2, and 1:8 for 3–5s—often exceeding these to provide personalised care. This ensures every child receives ample attention, particularly during key activities like outdoor play or circle time.
Administration: Our Management team handles enrolment, billing, and compliance documentation, using secure digital systems to protect data. Parents benefit from streamlined communication via our app, which delivers updates on their child’s day and nursery news.
Safety Audits: Daily, weekly, and termly safety audits cover everything from equipment checks to fire evacuation drills. Our premises feature secure entry systems, CCTV in communal areas, and regular maintenance to eliminate hazards. Risk assessments are conducted for all activities, ensuring safety during messy play or outdoor adventures.
Health and Hygiene: Our kitchen team prepares nutritious, EYFS-compliant meals, accommodating dietary needs. Strict hygiene protocols, including daily cleaning and toy sanitisation, maintain a healthy environment.
These operational practices, combined with our leadership and training, create a seamless, professional setting where children thrive. By sharing this insight, we aim to reassure parents and stakeholders of the expertise and care that define Little Mowgli.
