Explore Our Jungle-Inspired Nursery Rooms and Learning Spaces
At Little Mowgli, our nursery rooms and learning environments are thoughtfully designed to nurture the development of children aged 0–5, reflecting our jungle-inspired ethos. From cosy baby rooms to vibrant preschool spaces, each area is tailored to meet the unique needs of different age groups. This page provides a detailed look at our physical environment, showcasing how our classroom layouts, sensory elements, and outdoor areas create a safe, stimulating, and comfortable setting for young learners.
Room by Room Breakdown
Our nursery is divided into age-specific rooms, each crafted to support the developmental stages of babies and young children. Below is a breakdown of these spaces:
Tiger Room (0 – 24 Months): The Tiger room is a warm, nurturing haven designed for both infants and toddlers. Soft, neutral tones and natural textures create a calming atmosphere, while low-level furniture, such as cushioned mats and rocking chairs, supports safe exploration. A cosy book corner with cushions invites early literacy, while a small art station encourages mark-making and fine motor skills. Sensory toys, mobiles, and mirrors encourage early cognitive and motor development. Flexible furniture allows for group activities or individual exploration, catering to toddlers’ growing curiosity and energy. Staff maintain a high practitioner-to-child ratio, ensuring personalised attention for each.
Giraffe Room (2–5 Years): Our Giraffe room is a dynamic environment designed for structured learning and imaginative play. Low shelves are stocked with accessible resources like stacking blocks, puzzles, and role-play props, fostering independence and creativity. The room includes a messy play area for sensory activities like water or sand play, with easy-to-clean surfaces. It features distinct zones, including a literacy area with books and writing tools, a maths corner with counting games, and a construction zone for building projects. During each learning theme, some areas are transformed to provide an immersive learning experience, including our role play area and small world tuff table. The room’s open layout supports group activities like circle time, with movable furniture to adapt to different learning needs.
Each room is decorated with jungle-inspired elements—think leaf-patterned wall decals, animal murals, and wooden textures—that create an immersive, engaging atmosphere while aligning with our nature-based philosophy.
Sensory Elements, Quiet Zones, and Outdoor Areas
Our nursery is designed to stimulate young minds while providing spaces for calm and reflection. Sensory elements, quiet zones, and outdoor areas are integral to our setup, ensuring a balanced environment that caters to diverse needs.
Sensory Elements: Sensory experiences are woven into every room to support cognitive and emotional development. In the tiger room room, tactile panels and musical toys engage infants’ senses, while toddlers explore sensory bins filled with rice or textured fabrics. Our giraffe room benefit from loose parts play, using natural materials like wood, wool, and stones to connect children to the environment and enhancing sensory play.
Quiet Zones: Recognising the importance of calm spaces, each room includes a quiet zone where children can retreat for rest or reflection. In each of the rooms, children have a cosy tent filled with cushions and teddies, set up for children to access throughout the day for some calm time to regulate emotions and to reset after a busy activity.
Outdoor Area: Our outdoor space are an extension of our classrooms, providing opportunities for a range of learning experiences. Our mud kitchen and water wall promotes imaginative play and supports the children in building relationships through play. We partake in a range of gardening activities, with the benefit of a greenhouse to help us take care of plants and learn about the natural world. Sand trays and chalkboards provide lots of opportunity for mark making, building on both fine and gross motor skills. With flexible furniture and adaptable spaces, we can welcome all children outside together, providing valuable opportunities for our older children to interact with our youngest explorers.
How Rooms Are Designed for Safety, Learning, and Comfort
Safety, learning, and comfort are at the core of our room designs, ensuring an environment where children can thrive. All spaces adhere to strict safety standards, with rounded furniture edges, non-slip flooring, and secure storage to prevent accidents. Regular risk assessments and daily checks maintain a hazard-free environment. For babies, cots meet BS EN 716 standards, and all toys are age-appropriate and sanitised daily.
For learning, rooms are arranged to support the EYFS framework. Resources are organised to encourage independence—low shelves allow children to choose materials, while key learning areas are set up by practitioners to promote purposeful play. Flexible layouts accommodate group and individual activities, with spaces for both child-led and educator-guided learning.
Comfort is prioritised through thoughtful design. Temperature-controlled rooms keep children regulated throughout the day. Soft furnishings, like rugs and cushions, create inviting spaces, while ergonomic furniture supports developing bodies. Our learning zones are well-thought out and designed to allow children the space they need to make full use of the resources provided.
Overview of EYFS Framework
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a UK-wide framework that sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old. It provides a structured yet flexible approach to early education, ensuring that children receive high-quality care and learning experiences that promote their growth.
The EYFS is built around seven key areas of learning and development, divided into prime and specific areas. The three prime areas are:

Developing listening, understanding, and speaking skills.
Encouraging movement, coordination, and healthy habits.

Building self-confidence, relationships, and emotional resilience.
Introducing early reading and writing skills.
Exploring numbers, shapes, and problem-solving.
Discovering people, communities, and the environment.
Fostering creativity through art, music, and imaginative play.
The EYFS framework emphasises a balance between adult-led and child-initiated activities, with play at its core. It also highlights the importance of ongoing observation and assessment to track progress and tailor support to each child’s needs.
At Little Mowgli, we embrace the EYFS as a guiding principle, ensuring that every activity aligns with its standards while remaining engaging and fun.
